Dr. Betsy V. Boze is the President of The University of The Bahamas, the national higher education system of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.  A proven leader in complex, multi-campus higher education administration, she has an inclusive style of leadership and is described “as a person of unimpeachable integrity with the capacity to inspire confidence and trust.”

President Boze’s administrative experience in academic transformation spans over twenty years.  Her experience in academic mergers and partnerships and expanding two and four year colleges and campuses to comprehensive universities is unsurpassed.  Her expertise in financial transformation and responsibility centered management has brought stability and prosperity to every college or campus for which she was responsible.

Before assuming the presidency of The College of The Bahamas, she transformed Kent State University Stark into a comprehensive liberal arts university with professional graduate degree programs.  During her tenure, Kent Stark more than tripled the level of private giving and endowment funding, adding over two dozen new endowed scholarships.  Boze secured public, private and foundation funding for a new 45,000 square foot (4,180 m2) science building designed to LEED Gold standards.  Under her leadership, Kent Stark and achieved a record level of faculty research and was recognized for its civic engagement and environmental outreach programs.

Boze was the inaugural Dean of the College of Business at The University of Texas at Brownsville and served as Assistant to the President while an American Council on Education Fellow at Tulane University, a private research University. She served as the Chief Academic Officer of The University of Texas System "UT TeleCampus" MBA Online and held a Research Faculty appointment at Texas A&M University where she was Co-Director of the Texas Ports & Waterways.


President Boze has held leadership positions in national academic and professional associations, including the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the American Council on Education.  She serves on the Boards of the Antiquities and Monuments Corporation, Antiquities, Monuments and Museums Corporation (Bahamas), Gerace Research Center, The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, Clifton Heritage National Park, the national Advisory Council on Education (Bahamas), The Betty and Paul McDonald Foundation (USA) and the Bahamas Education, Culture and Science Foundation, Inc. (USA).

A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, President Boze has lived in Mexico, Japan, East and West Germany, Switzerland, Italy the US and The Bahamas. She earned her bachelors and masters degrees from Southern Methodist University and her Ph.D. from The University of Arkansas.  She was an early signer of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment and the fifth international signer, representing The College of The Bahamas.

 Dr. Boze has three adult children and two grandchildren.  She has flown kites over almost a hundred countries, oceans and seas and, in her spare time, she enjoys SCUBA diving and adventure sports.
